No Surrender at Appomattox!

New pictures up from BWF action in Appomattox, VA two weeks ago.  BWF Women’s Champion [and Marilyn Monroe look-alike]  Miss Tiff was challenged by none other than mat veteran and former BWF title holder Lexie Fyfe.  On hand to ref was wrestling legend Jimmy ‘Boogie Woogie Man’ Valiant.  Lexie came on hard and strong against local favorite Miss Tiff.   But along the way, she showed much disrespect to the ref.  It looked like Lexie was going to cruise to a victory after stamping out a brief rally by the blonde in blue.  Ms. Fyfe got the pin, albeit with her legs in the ropes for a little assist.  Mr. Valiant did not at first see this dubious move and awarded the win to Lexie, but when her cheating was affirmed by all present, he tried to take the belt away from her.  But Lexie pulled back.  And pulled!   Miss Tiff saw an opportunity and knelt behind Lexie … when Ref Valiant suddenly let go of the belt, Ms. Fyfe went flying backwards, right into position for Miss Tiff to get an easy pin and her title back.  Plus special footage of what happened when Lexie and Miss Tiff met up in the Moose Lodge bar after the match!

Simply Luscious … Simply WEW Champion!

New album is up from the recent WEW show in the historic New Alhambra Arena in beautiful downtown Philadelphia, PA.  Each match has its own album, plus special candid album, ‘WEW Dancers’ album, and THAI Farewell album.  Just a couple observations:

*   It was grand to see Simply Luscious take the WEW title.  Rule-breaker though she is, she is a mainstay of WEW and deserves to win.  She looked in GREAT shape and not only won the title from Jazz in a fine match, but had an excellent defense against Angel Orsini.

*   Amy Love made her debut, but took trouncing not only from Trenesha Biggers, but also from Angel Orsini.   Amy aimed high, but walked away 0 – 2 for her efforts.  I hope this leggy beauty will get a chance to even her record next time.

*   Speaking of Trenesha … she had looked a bit green her last couple outings, but this show I could see a good deal of improvement.  She seemed more coordinated and in control.

*   Lucy Furr/ Daffney’s new gear rocks!

*   Nice send off for THAI, another WEW mainstay.  There were many wet eyes in the ring.   She is retiring.  Sorry to see her go.

*   Amy Lee was at full tilt in her hardcore tag match with Annie Social against Blonde Ambition [Bobcat and Roni Jonah].  When Amy Lee is on a rampage, you can feel the electricity of a whole arena of nervous people … she makes you think ANYTHING can happen … and just might.  I don’t think Roni has been given a chance to shine on her own …  if she’s at OVW, she must have some skills, but she doesn’t really get a chance to show it off.  However, she has to lose the gold and pink gear.  She’s supposed to be a rockstar, not Crusty the Clown.

*   Annie Cruz vs. Dragon Lily – where did WEW ever find pornstars who can grapple?!  No half-hearted, giggling ‘catfight’ this … but a way too short match with real holds, competently applied.  Not bad!

Auld Lang Syne, April!

I remember the first time I met April in person and could not believe it was her … she was so, so … short!  Yes, without the wrestling boots with the 6″ lifts, she was no taller than I was.  Just goes to show how April always seems larger than life in the ring!  [double entendre intended]  April has charisma and always commands attention when she enters the arena.  Whether heel or face, she will always leave you entertained.  I remember a match she had in Pittsburgh against a woman who was greener than this font.  But somehow April made the match seem plausible and exciting.  She made me promise never to tell of it to anyone … but I’m breaking that promise, because it was the kind of incident that shows just how talented April really is.  Rather than griping about the booking [OK, maybe she DID do that!], she made the match work.  I’m sorry to see April retiring, but glad that I was able to see her in action as often as I have.  So, April here’s “a cup of  kindness” to you, and to auld lang syne!    [Let me know if you make any exceptions to your retirement!  ;-)

Next Gigs

Saturday, Dec. 15th – BWF – Appomattox, VA – Belltime 8 pm – Miss Tiff defends her BWF Women’s title against ring veteran Lexie Fyfe!

Saturday, Dec. 22nd – WSU – Lake Hiawatha, NJ – Belltime 5:30 pm – the WSU Women’s Title is at stake!  And Alicia’s retirement! *snif*

Arrivederci Alicia!

The unthinkable has happened:  Alicia has announced her retirement from wrestling.  The ultimate Jersey Girl has decided she needs to concentrate on her [what?!!] studies!  All I can say is good for you, Alicia.  You always liked to tap a finger to your forehead to show us how smart you are … and this proves it!  Alicia is truly one of a kind.  How many can say they are leaving seven years in the wrestling business … at the age of 20!  How many wrestlers have had such supportive parents, who attended your matches like other parents go to piano recitals … just so they could BOO you!  They say some women “light up a room” with their presence … but how many women can get a a couple hundred people screaming at her in under 10 seconds?  Let’s just say … not many!  I don’t know if you will ever return to wrestling … you probably don’t know yourself.  But I just want to say thank you for entertaining us fans.  Thank you for your attitude!  Thank you for putting Jersey on the map again!  Thank you for your “If you can’t go over the top why go at all” approach to wrestling!  Thanks for always being so nice to me, a pain in the ass photographer.  You will be missed.  Somehow, I will even miss hearing the Black-eyed Peas singing ”My lumps!”

Max Speede Gets His Way at PWE!

In a surprising development, Max Speede has not only succeeded in taking the PWE Women’s title away from Cindy Rogers, but has acquired it for himself!  Earlier this month PWE Commissioner Tiffani Monroe had challenged Mr. Speede to step into the ring with herself and Cindy Rogers, bringing in the female wrestler of his choice.  Mr. Speede chose well … Sara ‘The Death Rey” del Rey!  Thanksgiving weekend, the match happened as scheduled in beautiful downtown Newport, PA.   In the opening moments, Mr. Speede [who is NOT a wrestler!] tried to use his size to overewhelm Ms. Monroe, but ‘the Nevada Cowgirl’ managed to take Max down a few notches.  But when Sara and Cindy got into the ring, it became a real war.  Each wrestler played to her strengths, Sara attempting to take Cindy by sheer power, Cindy trying to wrap Sara up in a submission hold of one kind or another.  A little double-teaming by Cindy and Tiffani had Sara on the ropes, but things got completely out of hand when all four wrestlers were in the ring.  But suddenly the bell rang … Max had made a clean pin on Cindy Rogers!  The PWE Women’s Title was HIS!?  Cindy’s response, however, was not outrage, but hilarity!  Was it more embarassing for Cindy or for Max?   But Max’s tenure may indeed be short-lived.  He will have to defend his title for the first time, against an as yet unnamed opponent in York, PA on January 26th!  PWE has featured many of America’s best women wrestlers … who will it be?  Cindy Rogers?  Fate?  Lexie Fyfe?  Fantasia?  Allison Danger?  Alere Little Feather?  Tiffani Monroe?  Kylie Pierce?  or … or … or even ’the Death Rey’ herself, Sara del Rey??  Keep your eye here:

Melee in Mullens

The ‘Mountain Girl’ Nicole Starr was supposed to have a match with Tennessee grappler Misty James, but the unpredictable mountain weather in southeast West Virginia delayed her opponent.  Ms. Starr thought she was going to get a free night, but the IPW Commissioner thought otherwise.  And so, back from some injuries, Mullens favorite Sarah Lynn came out to challenge the cocky Ms. Starr.  Sarah Lynn took a lot of punishment from Nicole, but Ms. Starr allowed herself to be distracted by the ref long enough for Sarah Lynn to get the roll up and the pin.

Misty James arrived in time to manage her husband and partner in wrestrling crime, Bo James, in a match against WWF Legend Tracey Smothers.  Mr. James got the win, but only after being supplied with some brass knuckles by his resourceful manager, Misty.  Everyone saw it but the ref!  Once again the Commissioner intervened.  Next show, Misty would not be allowed to avoid the ring.  She would partner with Bo against Mr. Smothers and …. and who?  Sarah Lynn stepped out from the locker room to answer that question.  Coming from her win over the Eastern States champion that very evening, Sarah Lynn’s arrival had Misty James in a virtual panic.  Stay tuned for more from this drama at IPW!  And see the pictures here:

The ‘Death Rey’ Strikes Again!

This time in beautiful downtown Reading, PA when Sara del Rey faced off against “The International Superstar” Portia Perez in Chikara Pro action.  Fresh from her GCW championship in Ontario, Ms. Perez perhaps thought she was on a roll as a giant killer.  But those dreams perished on the canvas at the exclusive Benevolent Society Hall on Pear Street.  Portia made a valiant effort but simply could not keep up with Sara’s power.  A sustained figure 4 scissors seemed to sap the young Canadian’s strength, but she fought on.  Sara was not even able to wring a submission with her patented Royal Butterfly, but when she converted it into a powerbomb, Ms. Perez was done.  Sara with a solid win over a dogged opponent.  Portia showing she could hold her own with the very best.  It started with a handshake and ended with a hug … good sportswomanship all around!  Wrestling the way it OUGHT to be!  See all the action at the Image Gallery!

A ‘Fate’-ful Day for Kylie Pierce!

Veteran’s Day was an appropriate day for ring veterans Kylie Pierce and Fate to meet up in Covey Pro action in beautiful downtown Berkeley Springs, WV.  More commonly seen as partners as the Jawbreakers, Kylie and Fate both showed that when ring glory is at stake, friendship is a fleeting thing!  Fate wrestled a good clean technical match, but Kylie resorted to her usual rule-bending ways.  Fate’s lovely tresses received particular attention from the Girl from the Hamptons.  But with the fans solidly behind her, Fate managed to secure the pinfall and the match.  I doubt Ms. Pierce will take this loss lying down, so we can perhaps expect a continuation of this feud in the near future.  The lovely Jasmine and the brooding Scarlett were also on hand to manage their respective wrestlers.  See all the action at the Image Gallery.

Cindy Rogers Takes WXW Elite 8 Honors!

Cindy Rogers takes her place among that elite group of WXW Elite 8 winners, Traci Brooks, April Hunter, Alere Little Feather, Alicia, and Mercedes Martinez, after winning the 2007 event held Nov. 10th in beautiful downtown Coplay, PA.  Alexa Thatcher and Annie Social made their Elite 8 debuts as did homegrown talents, Monique and Discord.  Becky Bayless made her Elite 8 return after several years, and Jana and Hailey Hatred also returned after their 2006 debuts.

In first round action, Monique proved herself a powerhouse as she steamrolled over Jana.  Annie Social acquited herself well getting a solid win over Discord.  Alexa Thatcher lived up to her reputation by giving the much bigger Hailey a very tough match, but Ms. Hatred managed to pull out the win.  Finally, Cindy Rogers and Becky Bayless actually got a double pin, causing both to move forward to the Semi round.  Annie Social moved forward after Monique was felled with an ankle injury.  Cindy and Hailey teamed up to quickly dispose of poor Becky Bayless then went at it tooth and nail in the best match of the night, Ms. Rogers finally prevailing.  The delightful Sunny, looking fantastic. was the special guest referee for the Final match.  Annie Social had the match of her career, giving Ms. Rogers as good as she got, but in the end Cindy’s experience took it’s toll on Ms. Social, Cindy getting the pin after hitting Annie with a gourdbuster.  Alicia had tried to hit Cindy with a chair, but Mercedes did interference and slammed the Diva Squad leader to the mat.  All in all a fine event with a very satisfying outcome for your’s truly [No. 1  Cindy Rogers mark!]

Another highlight of the evening … the WXW return of Missy Sampson!  Missy had been lying low of late, but was the surprise challenger to Kacee Carlisle for the WXW Women’s Title.   Hardhitting is the best word to describe this match as two of WXW’s toughest wrestlers duked it out for the title.  Alas, Missy may be a little rusty, having to tap out to Kacee’s camel clutch.  But a valiant effort and a hope we see more of Missy soon!

Wrestlin Wally’s mark out moment …. meeting Erica “Jungle Grrrl” Porter!  Sadly, she did not get in the ring except to promote her new book, “Eat That Monkey.”  But I got her to pose for me with a “Jungle Grrrl” pose, which she probably hates doing, but maybe felt she had to do because I bought her book!  lol  Anyway, none of her photos do her justice.

And congratulations again to Cindy Rogers!  She deserves it!
