SHIMMER 4/26

WSU - A Star Sets and a Sun[-ny] Rises!

This was my first WSU show … December 22, 2007 in beautiful downtown Lake Hiawatha, NJ.  Thanks to Sean ‘MiC’ McCaffrey for the invite to shoot ringside.  A very enjoyable time, getting to see some of my favorite wrestlers in action.  You can see all my pictures of the event here:

For a big show like this I’m not going to attempt to give a full rundown, just a few random observations.

*   Two best matches on the card had one common denominator - Cindy Rogers.  Her matches with Nikki Roxx and Alexa Thatcher were terrific.  Alexa in particular has a style that complements Cindy’s very well - I have seen them wrestle three times and each time seemed fresh.

*   It was great to see Amy Lee actually get to wrestle.  Seems bookers mostly want her to brawl [which she does like nobody's business!] and don’t notice that she’s a very good wrestler.  She got to do it with Angel Orsini [with more than a little interference from Mercedes Martinez].

*   It’s always great to see Missy Sampson reffing, but now I can hardly wait to see her tagging with Amy Lee!  Go TCB!

*   Kudos to Jana for two fine matches, one with Roxie Cotton, the other with Nikki Roxx.  Nikki is a frequent opponent of Jana’s and they were able to put together a very good match.  Kudos also to Roxie Cotton who did well in her match with Jana and for being a sport about being squashed by Mercedes!

*   A very classy sendoff for Alicia.  It was her last match until, whenever ….  Her attempt to hand off the title to Becky Bayless was fun, especially when Sunny/Tammy Sytch intervened.  Sunny is now the WSU champion!  Is that her first wrestling title?  A very interesting development!

*   One blight on an otherwise great night of women’s wrestling - get that GUY in drag outta the ring!!!   It’s old, stale, and disrespectful to the women.  With the talent WSU has, PLUS trying to bring in the likes of Amazing Kong and Sara del Rey, they are clearly trying to be a serious presence in women’s wrestling.  Alleged “comedy spots” like that just take away from that.  [I'm just glad Mercedes kicked his ass!  lol]
