‘Sparkling’ Debut for Team Blondage 2.0!

They say that the hottest thing to ever come out of Cheraw, SC was jazz legend ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie. That was true … until last Saturday night … when the tag team of Amber O’Neal and Krissy Vaine made their return there as Team Blondage 2.0. The blonde bombshells made their return debut at NWA-MACW action in beautiful downtown Cheraw. A cynic might have expected MACW to put O’Neal and Vaine up against some second rate team, just to make sure the girls got a win on this historic occasion. But MACW was giving no ‘free passes’ to Team Blondage this time around. If they wanted to come back with a splash, they were going to have to earn it. Their opponents – The ‘Scream Queens’ Daffney and MsChif! MsChif, of course, being the current NWA Women’s Champion. Daffney, WCW legend and current SHIMMER and TNA star. And the two ravishing brunettes had no intention of letting Team Blondage walk away from the match with a win!
The standing room only crowd showed their preferences early on as they booed MsChif and Daffney as they entered the arena. But the Scream Queens paid little heed. They were there to do a job and just wanted to get down to business. In fact, they rudley interrupted Amber and Krissy’s entrance as they attacked them before the opening bell. But O’Neal and Vaine quickly turned the momentum around as they decked the screamers with a double clothesline. To the delight of the energetic crowd, the action quickly spilled out onto the arena floor, where Amber and Krissy seemed to be getting the better of their opponents. Once back in the ring, however, Daffney and MsChif tried to divide and conquer the battling blondes, isolating Amber in their corner and punishing her with chops, kicks, and even illegal [gasp!] chokes! After many times being pushed back into her corner by the ref, Krissy Vaine could stand no more. She rushed into the ring to rescue her partner. The battle got quite out of hand at this point, until eventually all four wrestlers were tied up with each other in mutual head locks! But in the end, Team Blondage was able to come through with their unique finisher, the Sparkling Diamond, Krissy executing the finishing kick that put Daffney away, with Amber getting the pin.
A truly ‘sparkling’ debut for the much-anticipated Team Blondage 2.0! The Scream Queens were none too happy with the outcome, but you can be sure this will not be the last time these teams lock horns. But to quote Amber O’Neal herself on the future of her revived tag team, “the best is yet to come!”

‘Simply D’Vyne’ Khrystyn Taylor chalks up win against mat veteran in East Coast Debut

A new wrestler on the independent scene – Self-proclaimed ‘Simply D’Vyne’ Khrystyn Taylor made her East Coast debut Saturday night at the acclaimed Zern’s Market in beautiful downtown Gilbertsville, PA. [Not much is known about 'Simply D'Vyne,' but word on the street is that she is being trained by one of the toughest women in wrestling today!] In WWWA action, Ms. Taylor decided to start with a bang by challenging long-time WWWA star and one-time women’s title holder ‘Pryme Tyme’ Amy Lee. What she lacked in experience, ‘Simply D’Vyne’ made up for in strategy, attacking Amy Lee before the bell even sounded. Khrystyn had Amy Lee reeling after a series of dropkicks and a monkey flip, but over-reached when she tried to lift the bodacious Amy Lee off the mat. Amy Lee converted it into a body slam and a big leg drop; she then pounded the rookie further with a splash into the corner, which unfortunately took the referee down as well. Amy Lee seemed to seal the deal by bulldogging Taylor’s face to the mat. But when Amy Lee tried for a pin, the ref was still in dreamland. It was at that moment that things got REALLY interesting as Monique Mercy entered the ring with a chair, KO’d Amy Lee with it and then draped a barely conscious ‘Simply D’Vyne’ over the prone Amy Lee. A revived ref saw only THIS pin, and after hitting the three count, proclaimed Ms. Taylor the winner. To the shock of all present, Khrystyn joined with Monique and Original Hat Guy in abusing a dazed Amy Lee. But Monique, making sure the upstart rookie knew who was queen bee, cut Ms. Taylor down with a clothesline. Amy Lee, after recovering some, then challenged Monique AND ‘Simply D’Vyne’ to a 3-way match at the WWWA show on March 14. The challenge was accepted and as a satisfied Monique and Hat Guy withdrew, pandemomium broke out as Amy Lee and Ms. Taylor brawled in the aisles. Monique Mercy’s strategy to take over the WWWA seems to be working. Divide and conquer. Deny Amy Lee another win, but put Ms. Taylor in her place as well. Expect the March 14th match to be brutal!

Miss April & Brooke Carter become WSU Tag Champs in major upset!

In only their first outing as a tag team, fan favorites Miss April and Brooke Carter scored a major upset over the Beatdown Betties, Annie Social and Roxie Cotton, to become the new WSU tag team champions. The capacity crowd in beautiful downtown Edison, NJ cheered the gorgeous grapplers as they displayed their new hardware after the match. Social and Cotton no doubt expected an easy time of it, going against an as yet untried tag team. When it became obvious that April and Brooke were no pushovers, the Betties dug deep into their bag of tricks, subjecting their opponents to low blows, eye rakes, and illegal choke holds. It seemed these dubious tactics were wearing the novice team down, but a last minute rally had Annie and Roxie reeling, with Miss April finally getting the pin on Annie Social. The effervescent Miss April and Brooke Carter seemed as surprised as everyone else at their victory. This adds a whole new wrinkle the the WSU when the tag title comes on the line again at the March 7th show in Boonton, NJ. It remains to be seen if the new champs are just a flash in the pan or if they are the real deal! Check out the Image Gallery for all my pictures from the show!

Wrestlin Wally Honors Black History Month

A couple of years ago I did a special tribute to the African-American [and African-Canadian] women of wrestling. I thought it was time to do that again. This time I am only using my own images for the current wrestlers and scans I’ve done from my collection of wrestling magazines for the older ones. I hope you enjoy them. These wrestlers had to overcome the dual obstacles of gender AND race. We’ve come a long way, I think, but it’s always a good thing to remember the pioneers.

XTC retains DCW title

Before a packed house at the Community Center in beautiful downtown Hastings, PA, XTC successfully retained her DCW Women’s title in her first defense since relieving the belt from Sara Brooks last year. Sara was out to get the DCW gold back, but XTC teamed up with Autumn Breeze to try to neutralize the former champion. Sara was subjected to one brutal double-team assault after another and it seemed the strategy was working. But Sara wasn’t out game yet. She staged a come back, clotheslining and hiptossing her opponents all over the ring. She even helped them ‘put their heads together’ Three Stooges style! But, while XTC took a breather outside the ring, Autumn managed to regain the initiative, even nailing Brooks with her finisher. But before she could seal the deal with a pin, XTC knocked her out with a chair to the head, allowing XTC to roll Sara up and get the win. A controversial ending to be sure, but nevertheless, western PA’s own ruthless XTC remains DCW women’s champion!
