Candi Divine needs no introduction. Already a legend in wrestling, her career has spanned four decades and she shows no signs of leaving the squared circle anytime soon. She has wrestled and bested the likes of Judy Martin, Sherri Martel, Wendy Richter and many more. Ms. Divine has held titles in at least a dozen different promotions around the world. But there is one women’s title that as of yet has eluded her – the Magnificent Ladies’ Wrestling World Title. Candi hoped to fix that Friday when she went up against MLW’s current champion, Veronica Fairchild, in a USA-Championship Wrestling hosted event in beautiful downtown Carthage, TN. Veronica gave up a lot in height and a lot more in experience, but MLW’s fighting champion was determined to keep the coveted belt securely around her shapely waist. Candi kept the pressure on Ms. Fairchild throughout the match, never letting up enough to enable Veronica to regroup. Ms. Divine also resorted to some underhanded tactics, for which she is famous, and these also took their toll on Veronica. Candi, wanting to end the match with a ‘splash,’ took off from the ropes, hoping to flatten Ms. Fairchild, who was already on the mat. But this is where MLW’s champion proved her ‘ring smarts’ even against a veteran like Candi Divine, rolling away at the last second, leaving Candi to land flat on her face on the mat. Veronica got the quick 1-2-3 over her stunned opponent, and walked away the winner of the match and still MLW champion. Candi walked away a bit shaken and disappointed, but determined to get her hands on the MLW belt.
UPDATE: Candi Divine and Veronica Fairchild battled again Saturday night in Burns, TN where Ms. Fairchild secured a second win and retained the MLW title.
