Rogers Drops WWWA Belt to Amy Lee!

Before a packed house at the world famous Zern’s Farmer’s Mart, the WWWA women’s title was on the line on April 12th.  Cindy Rogers had been the first and only WWWA women’s champion since the creation of that title last year, having defeated Alexa Thatcher not once but twice to win and retain the title.  But in the ongoing feud with the Original Hat Guy, ‘Pryme Tyme’ Amy Lee came forward to make a challenge.  Despite their obvious differences in size, Amy Lee found Cindy to be no pushover.  Rogers relentlessly worked over one of Amy Lee’s legs, even using the ring post for leverage for a painful looking figure 4 lock.  But Cindy got distracted by the Hat Guy, who rammed her head first into said ring post.  She was then easy prey for Amy Lee, who pinned her 1-2-3.  So, Cindy’s reign as WWWA champ ends, and Amy Lee’s begins.  But how long will it last?  The rematch is already on for May 10!

Tag Team Tempest!

Just trying to catch up with my new albums …  two new sets of tag team action …

First, UWC action in Wilson, NC … Brandi Richardson & Ebone Nicol Mosley took on Jesse ‘Air’ Jordan and Miss Amelia.  A rough seesaw battle looked to be heading toward the win column for Jesse and Amelia, until interference from an until now unknown wrestler, who knocked all four wrestlers to the mat.  Security was called in to restrain everybody and I believe the match ended as a ‘no contest.’  But this new wrestler is surely to be a force to be reckoned with in future!

Then, a special combined MCW/SWA show in beautiful Blue Ridge Summit, PA.  Roxie Cotton teamed up with Rebecca Payne to pair off against MCW champion, Ashley Nicely and Autumn Breeze.   Cotton and Payne seemed well on the way to a win, when an overconfident Roxie got caught by two boots to the face, an elbow, and ultimately a flying splash from Ms. Nicely, who then easily pinned the dazed Cotton, while Breeze and Payne brawled outside the ring.  Rebecca was none too frustrated at the loss and took it out on Roxie, supplexing her partner after the match.

Catching Up

Well it’s been awhile since I added anything here.  March came in like a lion and stayed that way.  So anyway, just a quick recap of my new albums:

Force -1 Wrestling 02/16  Mixed tag pitting Amy Lee and Rockin Rebel vs Roxie Cotton and Patch.  Poor Roxie:  made some good offense, but just out of her league with Amy Lee … then Rebel blew a fireball in her face!  The Valley Girl got a tan and Amy Lee got the pin!

Kyda Pro 03/07  My first time at this promotion that is so close to my home.  But they have not featured women in awhile.  Enter Kacee Carlisle!  Another mixed tag match in which she gave as good as she got.  It was Kacee who got the pin ultimately on Ali Akbar [or something like that].  Looks like Kyda may have an actual women’s match in the near future.  I will try to be there.

WSU 03/08  I’d like to make a separate blog for this since it was an all women’s show.  Maybe I’ll get to it before the NEXT show on 04/20!

PWU 03/15  The fallout match from February’s show.  Sara del Rey and Cindy Rogers vs Amy Lee and Mercedes Martinez.  Best match I’ve seen in awhile.  It was fast paced and everybody’s personalities got to shine through.  Amy Lee accidentally ploughed into Mercedes, enabling Sara to get the pin on a dazed Amy Lee.  Mercedes then turned on Amy Lee, with the connivance of Amy Lee’s long-time PWU manager, Dr. Bootz!  Bottom line:  Amy Lee is MAD!  April will see Amy Lee take on Mercedes.

SWO 03/15  Later that evening, got to see Autumn Breeze polish off Wolfette, though not without a little outside interference.  The Wolfman himself scattered the miscreants.  Wolfette wants revenge!

WWC 03/29  WOW!  Eight-woman tag match!  And what women!  Missy Sampson, Rebecca Payne, Discord, and Mo’Nique vs Roxie Cotton, Annie Social and The Moonshimers.  Understandably, Missy’s team tried to isolate Roxie and Annie, each wrestler taking their turn more or less successfully pummeling Roxie and Annie.  But when Debbie Sue and Tallulah finally got intothe ring, the heels took a beating.  Discord finally getting planted into the canvas with the Moonshiners patented Haybaler!

Mercedes Martinez’ “Sensational” Return to PWU

On February 16th, Mercedes Martinez made her long anticipated return to PWU action.  The Latina Sensation was lined up against Sara del Rey and Cindy Rogers in a first contenders’ spot 3-way.  With PWU champion looking on, the three battled it out to see who would advance to a title shot.  Nerves were on edge as Sara and Cindy started at it before the the opening bell and, indeed, before Ms. Martinez even completed her entrance.  But once in the ring, Mercedes cleared the other grapplers from it post haste.  It then became a back and forth battle as each wrester was ejected from the ring at one point or another, and as each broke up one or another pin or submission attempt.  It was in just such an exchange that Martinez prevailed.  Del Rey had just hit Rogers with a supplex from a royal butterfly, when Mercedes kicked Sara out of the pin attempt and got the pin herself.  Mercedes picked up the match and the number one contender’s spot.  But an irate Sara and Cindy then viciously attacked Martinez, trapping her in a corner.  Amy Lee then rushed in and scattered the two out of line wrestlers, warning them not to make a mockery of the PWU title.  She then challenged Roger and Del Rey to a tag match against her and Mercedes, a challenge readily accepted.  It seems Amy Lee’s save was not fully respected by Martinez as she proceeded to taunt Amy Lee, vowing to have the belt put on her waist at their next meeting.   See my pictures in the Image Gallery.

SN-(O)-W CANADA!

At the turn of the month I made a trek up to our neighbor to the North.  After two weeks of non-stop work in NY, I hoped to catch five shows in Ontario.  As luck would have it, a sudden snowstorm resulted in three of those shows getting cancelled!  But a quick substitution meant I was able to see three shows after all.  I hope to be back in Canada in June.  By then most of the snow should be gone!

On Thursday I saw Portia Perez make a GCW W.I.L.D. title defense against the popular Danyah.  This was a really great match. The women worked well together and the match psychology was excellent.  I was really on pins and needles as to the outcome to the very last moment.  Ms. Perez resorted to some ruthless [and blatant] choking, which is really too bad, because she is such a fine wrestler.  Danyah took the high road, however, and managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat when, as she was about to be pinned, managed to reverse the pin and come out the winner of the match and the new GCW Women’s champion!

Saturday was PWA action in beautiful downtown Cambridge.  The weather forced a few switcheroos for a house show in PWA’s new training facility.  But the night’s women’s match pitted Amy Victory against Sabrina Kyle.  From reports I read of the Ontario Indy scene [mostly from Gordo ... hey there, man!], it seems Amy rarely lives up to her name.  But in this match she was “on” and had Ms. Kyle on the defensive most of the match.  She was on the verge of wrenching a submission from Sabrina, when outside interference broke the match up.  It seems Sara del Rey is coming to town, and her local representative wanted to put the women on notice to clear the way.  Ah well.  No doubt Sara is going to make an impact in Ontario, but the PWA match showed that Ms. Victory is prepared to give her a run for her money.

Sunday, it was BSE and a four way match [that really turned into a tag match] featuring TNA Knockouts Christy Hemme, Traci Brooks, and Gail Kim, plus “Au naturel” Kelly Couture.  Gail and Traci formed an uneasy alliance and focused their attentions on Kelly, the least experienced woman in the ring.  But Ms. Couture showed that she could not only absorb punishment, but dish it out as well.  But when Kelly managed to tag Christy in, she cleared the ring of the bad girls.  A facebuster on Traci set her up for Christy’s signature leg spread pin.  A satisfying finish and the crowd was insane!

Despite the setbacks, a good trip.  It was great to see Gordo, the Wizard and Mrs. Id again.  I can never see enough of Danyah.  I love her work and I wish some US promotions would book her; they would not be disappointed.  Portia Perez is … as always … friggin awesome!  [Although she seemed to blame ME for her loss at the end of the match!  Ha!  Look in the mirror kiddo!]  Plus I got to meet and see in action a bunch of new people … Amy Victory and Sabrina Kyle, Kelly Couture, Gail Kim and Christy Hemme.  Also Mercy and Haley Rogers, who were keeping their eyes on the competition, and Emmanuel Melo, the Photographer of Record for Ontario wrestling.  Thanks to everyone who made the trip so enjoyable!

My pics will be going up over the next couple days.
