It was hell in Hellertown, PA for Kylie Pierce as she battled powerhouse Sara del Rey in recent CHIKARA PRO action. Del Rey came on strong as she hit Pierce with a devastating dropkick the moment the bell rang. A game Pierce tried several times to mount an offense, even getting Sara in her much dreaded Octopus Stretch submission hold. But Del Rey just dropped Pierce in the corner like a sack of potatoes. After a few more crushing kicks, Del Ray caught Kylie in her Royal Butterfly … there was no submission, but a follow-up supplex got Pierce ready for the uncontested pin. Another example of how Sara del Rey is one of the most powerful women in wrestling today!
Also, an appearance of PowaRangeru, a member of the new intergalactic wrestling federation, Kaiju. Learn more about her here: http://kaiju.com/

Cindy Rogers did not have long to enjoy the PWU Women’s Title very long. After having won it in December with a convincing win over Annie Social, she lost it again to fan favorite, ‘Pryme Time’ Amy Lee. Ms. Rogers had barely entered the ring when Amy Lee began a brutal assault that forced Rogers back to the concrete pavement. But when action recommenced, Rogers battled back hard, relentlessly attacking Amy Lee’s right leg. It looked like it might be all over when Rogers had Amy Lee’s legs tied up in a figure four around the ring post, Rogers leaning back outside the ring for leverage. But Amy Lee refused to submit. Cindy then went hardcore, repeatedly hitting Amy Lee’s leg with a chair. Thinking she had the match in the bag, Rogers allowed herself to be distracted gloating to Dr. Bootz, Amy Lee’s manager. But while Amy Lee had been down, she was most certainly NOT out. An enraged Amy Lee pulled Rogers down from her perch on the ropes, clobbered her with a few closed fists, then sent her face first to the canvas with a facebuster. In this case, it was Rogers who was down … AND out! An uncontested pin gave Amy Lee the match and the PWU title! Congratulations Amy Lee! As one sign at the show put it, “It’s About F#ckin Time!”
This weekend Ms. Rogers will get back in line in the battle for the title as she goes up against Sara del Rey and Mercedes Martinez in a number one contender’s match. This sounds like it will be a real barn burner and you can rest assured, Wrestlin Wally will be there!

This was my first WSU show … December 22, 2007 in beautiful downtown Lake Hiawatha, NJ. Thanks to Sean ‘MiC’ McCaffrey for the invite to shoot ringside. A very enjoyable time, getting to see some of my favorite wrestlers in action. You can see all my pictures of the event here:

For a big show like this I’m not going to attempt to give a full rundown, just a few random observations.
* Two best matches on the card had one common denominator - Cindy Rogers. Her matches with Nikki Roxx and Alexa Thatcher were terrific. Alexa in particular has a style that complements Cindy’s very well - I have seen them wrestle three times and each time seemed fresh.
* It was great to see Amy Lee actually get to wrestle. Seems bookers mostly want her to brawl [which she does like nobody's business!] and don’t notice that she’s a very good wrestler. She got to do it with Angel Orsini [with more than a little interference from Mercedes Martinez].
* It’s always great to see Missy Sampson reffing, but now I can hardly wait to see her tagging with Amy Lee! Go TCB!
* Kudos to Jana for two fine matches, one with Roxie Cotton, the other with Nikki Roxx. Nikki is a frequent opponent of Jana’s and they were able to put together a very good match. Kudos also to Roxie Cotton who did well in her match with Jana and for being a sport about being squashed by Mercedes!
* A very classy sendoff for Alicia. It was her last match until, whenever …. Her attempt to hand off the title to Becky Bayless was fun, especially when Sunny/Tammy Sytch intervened. Sunny is now the WSU champion! Is that her first wrestling title? A very interesting development!
* One blight on an otherwise great night of women’s wrestling - get that GUY in drag outta the ring!!! It’s old, stale, and disrespectful to the women. With the talent WSU has, PLUS trying to bring in the likes of Amazing Kong and Sara del Rey, they are clearly trying to be a serious presence in women’s wrestling. Alleged “comedy spots” like that just take away from that. [I'm just glad Mercedes kicked his ass! lol]

New pictures up from BWF action in Appomattox, VA two weeks ago. BWF Women’s Champion [and Marilyn Monroe look-alike] Miss Tiff was challenged by none other than mat veteran and former BWF title holder Lexie Fyfe. On hand to ref was wrestling legend Jimmy ‘Boogie Woogie Man’ Valiant. Lexie came on hard and strong against local favorite Miss Tiff. But along the way, she showed much disrespect to the ref. It looked like Lexie was going to cruise to a victory after stamping out a brief rally by the blonde in blue. Ms. Fyfe got the pin, albeit with her legs in the ropes for a little assist. Mr. Valiant did not at first see this dubious move and awarded the win to Lexie, but when her cheating was affirmed by all present, he tried to take the belt away from her. But Lexie pulled back. And pulled! Miss Tiff saw an opportunity and knelt behind Lexie … when Ref Valiant suddenly let go of the belt, Ms. Fyfe went flying backwards, right into position for Miss Tiff to get an easy pin and her title back. Plus special footage of what happened when Lexie and Miss Tiff met up in the Moose Lodge bar after the match!

New album is up from the recent WEW show in the historic New Alhambra Arena in beautiful downtown Philadelphia, PA. Each match has its own album, plus special candid album, ‘WEW Dancers’ album, and THAI Farewell album. Just a couple observations:
* It was grand to see Simply Luscious take the WEW title. Rule-breaker though she is, she is a mainstay of WEW and deserves to win. She looked in GREAT shape and not only won the title from Jazz in a fine match, but had an excellent defense against Angel Orsini.
* Amy Love made her debut, but took trouncing not only from Trenesha Biggers, but also from Angel Orsini. Amy aimed high, but walked away 0 - 2 for her efforts. I hope this leggy beauty will get a chance to even her record next time.
* Speaking of Trenesha … she had looked a bit green her last couple outings, but this show I could see a good deal of improvement. She seemed more coordinated and in control.
* Lucy Furr/ Daffney’s new gear rocks!
* Nice send off for THAI, another WEW mainstay. There were many wet eyes in the ring. She is retiring. Sorry to see her go.
* Amy Lee was at full tilt in her hardcore tag match with Annie Social against Blonde Ambition [Bobcat and Roni Jonah]. When Amy Lee is on a rampage, you can feel the electricity of a whole arena of nervous people … she makes you think ANYTHING can happen … and just might. I don’t think Roni has been given a chance to shine on her own … if she’s at OVW, she must have some skills, but she doesn’t really get a chance to show it off. However, she has to lose the gold and pink gear. She’s supposed to be a rockstar, not Crusty the Clown.
* Annie Cruz vs. Dragon Lily - where did WEW ever find pornstars who can grapple?! No half-hearted, giggling ‘catfight’ this … but a way too short match with real holds, competently applied. Not bad!

I remember the first time I met April in person and could not believe it was her … she was so, so … short! Yes, without the wrestling boots with the 6″ lifts, she was no taller than I was. Just goes to show how April always seems larger than life in the ring! [double entendre intended] April has charisma and always commands attention when she enters the arena. Whether heel or face, she will always leave you entertained. I remember a match she had in Pittsburgh against a woman who was greener than this font. But somehow April made the match seem plausible and exciting. She made me promise never to tell of it to anyone … but I’m breaking that promise, because it was the kind of incident that shows just how talented April really is. Rather than griping about the booking [OK, maybe she DID do that!], she made the match work. I’m sorry to see April retiring, but glad that I was able to see her in action as often as I have. So, April here’s “a cup of kindness” to you, and to auld lang syne! [Let me know if you make any exceptions to your retirement! ;-)

The unthinkable has happened: Alicia has announced her retirement from wrestling. The ultimate Jersey Girl has decided she needs to concentrate on her [what?!!] studies! All I can say is good for you, Alicia. You always liked to tap a finger to your forehead to show us how smart you are … and this proves it! Alicia is truly one of a kind. How many can say they are leaving seven years in the wrestling business … at the age of 20! How many wrestlers have had such supportive parents, who attended your matches like other parents go to piano recitals … just so they could BOO you! They say some women “light up a room” with their presence … but how many women can get a a couple hundred people screaming at her in under 10 seconds? Let’s just say … not many! I don’t know if you will ever return to wrestling … you probably don’t know yourself. But I just want to say thank you for entertaining us fans. Thank you for your attitude! Thank you for putting Jersey on the map again! Thank you for your “If you can’t go over the top why go at all” approach to wrestling! Thanks for always being so nice to me, a pain in the ass photographer. You will be missed. Somehow, I will even miss hearing the Black-eyed Peas singing ”My lumps!”

In a surprising development, Max Speede has not only succeeded in taking the PWE Women’s title away from Cindy Rogers, but has acquired it for himself! Earlier this month PWE Commissioner Tiffani Monroe had challenged Mr. Speede to step into the ring with herself and Cindy Rogers, bringing in the female wrestler of his choice. Mr. Speede chose well … Sara ‘The Death Rey” del Rey! Thanksgiving weekend, the match happened as scheduled in beautiful downtown Newport, PA. In the opening moments, Mr. Speede [who is NOT a wrestler!] tried to use his size to overewhelm Ms. Monroe, but ‘the Nevada Cowgirl’ managed to take Max down a few notches. But when Sara and Cindy got into the ring, it became a real war. Each wrestler played to her strengths, Sara attempting to take Cindy by sheer power, Cindy trying to wrap Sara up in a submission hold of one kind or another. A little double-teaming by Cindy and Tiffani had Sara on the ropes, but things got completely out of hand when all four wrestlers were in the ring. But suddenly the bell rang … Max had made a clean pin on Cindy Rogers! The PWE Women’s Title was HIS!? Cindy’s response, however, was not outrage, but hilarity! Was it more embarassing for Cindy or for Max? But Max’s tenure may indeed be short-lived. He will have to defend his title for the first time, against an as yet unnamed opponent in York, PA on January 26th! PWE has featured many of America’s best women wrestlers … who will it be? Cindy Rogers? Fate? Lexie Fyfe? Fantasia? Allison Danger? Alere Little Feather? Tiffani Monroe? Kylie Pierce? or … or … or even ’the Death Rey’ herself, Sara del Rey?? Keep your eye here:
