How Thanksgiving might have turned out if there had been women’s wrestling in those days. Seems like the Indians came out on top this time! And yes, that is oil and CRANBERRY wrestling!

Most female wrestlers in the US, Europe, and Japan have to deal with discrimination and sexism in addition to the usual hard work, wearisome travel, and uncertain paydays. But how about death threats … against you and your whole family? Very interesting and inspiring article about some young female amateur wrestlers in Iraq and their desire to persevere in the sport they love in spite of the evil machinations of narrowminded morons. WSU DVD’s at $3 a pop!! Folks, this kind of sale doesn’t come around too often … can we say, like, almost NEVER?! So forget about going to Walmart or Target. Women’s wrestling returned to beautiful downtown Annapolis, Maryland last night as Adrenaline Championship Wrestling sanctioned a tag match pitting the popular ‘Beatdown Betties’ Roxie Cotton and Annie Social against the team of Kylie Pierce and Rebecca Payne. After a seesaw battle that saw Ms. Pierce and Ms. Payne manage to get a few underhanded tactics past the watchful eye of special guest ref, Ashley Nicely, Annie Social picked up the win for her team after Rebecca tapped out to a jiu-jitsu inspired headscissor/ armbar combo submission hold.
But in a shocking development, ACW Commissioner Chris Adonis announced that Roxie and Annie would have to face off against each other to determine the first ever ACW Maryland Women’s Champion. The two partners were naturally reluctant to wrestle each other, at first trying to determine a winner by ‘rock-paper-scissors,’ then arm wrestling, then thumb wrestling, but each time the loser wanted another chance. Finally ambition took over as Annie sent a boot to Roxie’s midsection and the match was on! In the end, Roxie managed to slip out when Annie attempted her Social Disorder finisher. With Annie disabled in a leg split position, Roxie easily applied her own finisher, the Cotton Mouth, which had Ms. Social howling out her submission in a matter of seconds. Fortunately, there were no hard feelings as the tag partners exchanged a hug while Roxie was acknowledged as the new champion. Congratulations to Annie and Roxie on their win, and to Roxie on her new title!

SHIMMER star and Indie standout Melanie Cruise was in action 2 weeks ago at her home promotion, POWW, in beautiful downtown Fox Lake, Illinois. Standing at over 6 foot, the brunette beauty is used to having her way in the ring, and this night seemed like it would be no different as she faced off against Illinois rookie sensation Taylor Made, (who was giving up a lot in the size department) in a 6-man (and woman) tag match. Taylor suffered terribly as Melanie hit her with powerful chops and supplexes that would have put away most male wrestlers, but the crimson haired grappler did not break, but only became more determined. Once the action spilled out onto the arena floor, Ms. Cruise was put on the defensive as Taylor showed she could brawl with the best. The match ended with DQ’s all around, but Melanie once again wowed the crowd even as Taylor demonstrated she was someone to be reckoned with! Click the pic for more information on POWW and on upcoming shows featuring Melanie Cruise and Taylor Made.
Be sure to check the Image Gallery for all the action as well as the Great Cheyenne, Nikki, and Jade who were also at the show.

Just set up temporary albums of “highlight” pics from Vol. 27 and Vol. 28. Go to the Image Gallery!

I generally reserve this blog for my own photos, but I just HAD to make an exception for this photo of one Nicole Raczynski, aka Nikki Roxx. Here we see her doing what she does in her ’spare’ time, participating in physique competitions. This was at the NPC 2009 New England Championships last weekend, where Ms. Roxx placed 4th in the Class B Bikini Competition. Congratulations to Nikki, and I’ll say it again … WOW!
